Odin (Wodin, Woden)

ANCIENT SPIRAL Thor Viking Norse God Asatru Mjollnir

Pewter Odin's Head Pendant, available at the Spiral Online Shop

  • Odin, also known as Wodin and Woden, is one of the principle gods of the Norse religion (Asatru) followed by the Vikings.
  • He was considered one of the oldest and wisest of all Norse gods.  He was one of the children of the first being, the evil frost-giant Ymir, and he helped create the first humans.
  • Odin was often depicted with a patch over one eye, as he donated an eye to drink from the Well of Knowledge.
  • He is also known for crucifying himself on the Tree of Life in order to gain secret wisdom of magic and Runes - a strange parallel he shares with Jesus.
  • His companions are two ravens.
  • He was associated with Wednesday (Odin's day=Wodens'day=Wednesday)
